FAME Foundation launches Bijoux Cebu and Green Waters Program

Wednesday, September 22, 2010
The growing global demand for Eco-friendly products continues to be an attractive platform for Philippine fashion accessories made from natural materials. Seeking to maximize on this market demand, the Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Foundation Philippines (FAME Foundation) held an annual trade show for Philippine fashion accessories since 2008.

Bijoux Cebu (French for Jewelry), this year's event happened last September 18-20, 2010 at Shangri-La's Mactan Resort and Spa.

The show featured the exporters' Spring-Summer 2011 Collections, with a theme that revolved around nature's 4 basic elements of earth, wind, fire and water.

It lured foreign buyers from all over the world, especially those from first-world countries who advocate green living. As early as June of this year, foreign buyers registered early to attend the said event. Bijoux Cebu targeted 200 buyers this year, with exhibitors numbering almost 40. This is about half of all the member exporters of FAME Foundation.

The event also featured additional attractions and enhancements. It included daily fashion shows, craft demonstrations, design competitions, and was highlighted by a gala night for the buyers at the Provincial Capitol Hall.

Aside from the trade show, FAME Foundation also held a lifestyle Garden Bazaar at Shangri-la's gardens. It gave foreign buyers and resort guests a unique shopping experience.

FAME Foundation also launched launching Green Waters, Phase 2 of Go Green Philippines. It is a sustainable environment program that aims to revitalize the Philippine ecosystem and sustain the Philippine fashion accessories industry at the same time.

Go Green Philippines launched the Phase 2, otherwise known as Green Waters. It aims to create marine sanctuaries and preserve our coral reefs.September was also declared as the Month of the Ocean.

FAME Foundation will also be working with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region VII, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Local Government Units, Academic institutions, and People's Organizations. For the daily maintenance of the marine sanctuaries, FAME Foundation will be partnering with a People's Organization within the area. People's Organizations work to empower grassroots communities living in local areas.

FAME Foundation, through Green Waters, also advocates the preservation of the Coral Triangle. The Coral Triangle has the world's richest concentration of corals and sea life. It got its name because of the area's triangular shape within the marine waters of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste.

The event was highlighted by the presence of Go Green Ambassadors-environmentalist Adrien Semblat, Ms. Earth 2008 Karla Henry, model Isabella Daza, and actor Richard Gutierrez. It was organized by FAME Foundation Philippines, with the support of PhilExport Cebu, Export Development Council, DTI, DENR, DOST, DOT, Cebu Provincial Government, and Cebu City Government.
